Point Park University: Environmental Studies Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

The challenge has made me more aware of the things about my energy use that I cannot control due to living in an apartment. For instance, I cannot  control the heat in my unit. I had accepted this and at times have to open my windows in the winter to keep my apartment at a comfortable temperature, which I know is a waste of energy! I have since contacted my landlord to come up with a solution that is more sustainable.

This past weekend was a great time to get outdoors. Found potential nesting sites for the pileated woodpeckers that live in my woods. Spent time moving the chickens into the garden getting ready for spring - they do a great job at digging up the garden and eating grubs.

I have been interested in electric cars for a long time, specifically Tesla. If I had the money, I would 100% drive an all electric car right now. They are so good for the environment and are super fun to drive.

I have been playing golf a lot this week to prepare for the upcoming season. I always walk instead of riding in the cart. Every little bit counts.

Going for a daily 10 minute walk is easy when your dog refuses to poop.

I try to spend as much time outdoors so signing up for the nature challenges are easy. The food challenges are harder for me because I eat fish and meat but I did take the challenge for choosing sustainable fish which was interesting.

Eating meatless is pretty easy when the meat served from the school's dining service in already unappetizing.

I was very satisfied to say that I already turn the water off when I brush my teeth...it's one of my only talents.

I offered my environmental science class extra credit if they can beat me in the challenge. I will not be defeated.
